Before and After Photos on Every Tree Job

Every tree company eventually gets the call. The homeowner says the crew cracked the walkway, rutted the yard or left a pile of sawdust by the patio. Maybe it's true; maybe it was like that before you got there. Without a photo, it's your word against theirs, and the customer usually wins.

A couple of photos at the start and end of every job ends most of those conversations before they start. They also do a lot more than settle disputes.

Photos Are Records, Not Decoration

In On-the-Way and Arrival Alerts for Tree Service Customers, the completed message told the customer the job was done. Photos show it. TreeBossPro saves photos from the crew app to the job and to the property, so they become part of the property's service history rather than sitting in someone's camera roll.

That matters because the property outlives any single job. The before photo from today's removal is the reference point for the estimate three years from now.

What to Shoot Before You Start

Before photos protect you. Shoot the work area from a couple of angles: the tree, the drop zone, the path the equipment will take and anything already damaged. Cracked driveways, broken fence boards, ruts, damaged sprinkler heads and dented gutters are worth a picture if they're in your work zone.

It takes a minute. Make it part of the routine right after tapping start, before the first saw runs.

Pay extra attention to the things your equipment touches. The curb where the chipper sits, the driveway where the loader runs, the turf along the drag path and the roofline under the limbs you're taking off. Those are the areas most likely to come up later, so they're the areas worth a clear picture. If the customer mentions a concern before you start, photograph that spot too and add a short note so the office knows why it was shot.

Shoot wide enough to show context. A close-up of a crack doesn't prove much if nobody can tell where it is.

What to Shoot When You Finish

After photos show the quality of your work. Shoot the cleaned-up site, the stump or flush cut, the pruned canopy from a distance and the street where the chip truck was parked. These are the photos the customer sees when they come home, and the ones you can point to if someone says the cleanup was poor.

Good after photos also make good examples. A clean removal photo is the best thing to show the next homeowner who asks what the yard will look like when you're done.

Photos That Find Work

Crews see things nobody else does. A climber in a canopy notices the decay pocket on the next tree, the cracked union on the neighbor's oak or the dead limb over the garage. A photo of that, saved to the property with a short note, is a lead the estimator can follow up on.

Teach crews to shoot anything that looks like a problem and add a note. The office can turn those into estimates with online approval. Some of your easiest sales come from photos your own crew took.

Photos for Plant Health Care and Pruning Cycles

For recurring work, photos build a timeline. A pruning customer on a regular cycle can see how their trees have changed. A PHC customer can see what the foliage looked like at each visit. Your applicators and climbers can compare this year to last year without relying on memory.

That timeline is a quiet sales tool too. Customers who can see the difference are more likely to stay on the program.

Make It a Habit, Not a Chore

Photos only help if they're taken every time. A dispute almost always happens on the one job where nobody bothered. Keep the expectation simple: before, after and anything unusual. Don't ask for twenty shots a job; ask for four or five good ones. Foremen who see photos settle a complaint once usually don't need to be reminded again.
